Destiny within a Character

All characters in the Lord of the Rings are on a destiny. Many in this case are trying to protect their homes. While some are on their way to leaving a legacy. With Frodo. the ring barrer, come his companions and best friends Sam, Merry, and Pippin. In the case of the hobbits they are protecting the Shire. Aragorn is an heir and is on a destiny to protect all and prove what the can obtain while leaving a legacy. Gandalf on the other hand is living up to the power and the power that he consists of that is greater than seen on the surface. Each person selected to help on the journey is obtaining and learning something new about themselves. Legolas and Gmili's people are not all of friends but this journey brings them together.
 Frodo being the ring barer learns a lot form hi father Bilbo, and also Gandalf. Bilbo gave Frodo the ring while Gandalf would not take it from him. This created the task of destroying the ring in Mordor, which the hobbits believe must be done to protect the Shire. Gandalf I believe made a wise decision in not taking the ring because the ring and the power it has over one person can change a destiny. For Frodo to over come what the ring so chooses he grows with every step on the journey. By not giving into the ring it makes it harder for it's master to find it, and rule them all. Frodo approaches this journey with the help of Dwarfs many others. Each other person contains their own destiny. They are all related to the ring in some way. Elves, , Kings, Wizards and all races are coming together to destroy the ring. In doing so i believe that a destiny could be to restore the old world back to it's great and peaceful beginnings before the shadows took over the land.
  Destiny is not always presented but the tasks a character makes and chooses can shape a destiny and also provide what. What's a book without a task or a goal? How is it interesting if there are no errors? i believe every destiny approaches theses errors but in the end if a character really wants something they will do all they can to get it done. A destiny is something you decide so take it by the horns and get it done.

Is this book calling you too?

  Previously reading the book The Land of the Living I have found this book to be well overall. The beginning is a huge attention grabber. Starting off with a girl, Abbie being tortured after being kidnapped. Way's in which she dealt with the pain, and in all darkness she found herself. She escaped him. While escaping it wasn't easy for Abbie to remember the past days prior to being taken from her flat. Although, the beginning really grabs the reader, the middle of the book seems to drag on. It talks of her ex, and leaving him, it's understood this is how she came to who she is but at the same time it takes away from the suspense.
 The ending was filled with action as the beginning was. Abbie found Sarah another girl being tortured the same way. While trying to undo the wire around her neck holding a black bag over he head she heard the kidnapper coming. She quickly re-did everything, and hid in the darkness. While the man was working with Sarah she opened up and told him that there was someone else around. Abbie came out of the dark and plunged her thumbs into the man's eyes pushing them half way to his brain.
   Some people are intrigued with action or suspense others would prefer a much more laid back story. This story got my attention because it relates to the show Criminal Minds, NCIS, and many other crime shows. Figuring out what is unknown causes the reader to predict who the person causing the crime is. Well know it's time to think if you would read a book like this? Are you into suspense, romance, and the unexpected? Then this is a book for you too.

one always like another.

 Previously in the year my teacher Mr.Kain addressed the fact that books seem to play off one another. Each story is a retelling of another. The book I've recently finished is called The Land of the Living, by Nicci French. A girl named Abbie who went through traumatizing events tries to get back on her feet. With every step she takes is the memory of what happened to her in that dark cellar. The man is out there someone trying to find her, trying to kill her. Although Abbie remembers the man who hurt her she can't remember any of the days leading up to her capture. Will little previous evidence her detective Inspector Cross can't tell if everything she says is made up or not. With Abbie back tracking her steps she finds clues, with each clue she contacts Mr. Cross. He doesn't check up on what she says instead he lets it play out. He waits, and waits. Until the day Abbie runs away and finds a girl named Sarah who is captured and treated the same way she had been. Sounds like The Boy who Cried Wolf if you ask me. The boy always says a wolf is coming. Once people can't trust you fully why should they trust you now? If you were in Mr.Cross's position would you take Abbie's thoughts into consideration?

Fallow up on Land of the Living

   I relate the book Land of the Living to the move "V for Vendetta". When Evee is put in a cell by V some of the changes that Abbie encounter are very similar to hers. Evve in the movie is kept as a holocaust victim. Never to see the day light, her head is shaved, and she loses most of herself. Food is minimal. She becomes almost accustomed the the V's ways and becomes friends with him, dancing and talking even watching movies together.  Evee has a moment of sanity as she reads the letters pushed back and forth through the cell by a girl who's girlfriend was captured and taken from her. She would soon die. Evee cried when she found that V had written those letters, and there was no girl. She had poured her heart out to someone that was not who she thought. When V released her from the cell she had to live in his house. No going outside to see where it was and no contact with others. Life wasn't easy for her but she grew to like the man who had changed her life so drastically. When Evve cried for her lost life she was like a girl named Kelly who the capture killed in the Land of the Living . She cried every day for her lost life.As though she represents Kelly she represents Abbie in many more ways.
   Abbie is around the age of twenty five when she was taken from where? She can't even remember. She lost all memory of the past sixteen days in which she had a cloth bag over her head, a rag shoved in her mouth, and was tied up by her hands and feet. Abbie struggled through those days. She tried all tack tics. She cried under her closed in face. She would give up herself to him. She even fought back at him, physically and verbally. Abbie would do anything to be free. She even tried killing herself. The capture never thought she would be she had nothing anymore. She used to visualize green grass, butterflies, and the sky. After so long that memory faded. She lost all hope she was ready to end it. When she had no fear left in her any more she took the jump with a noose around her neck. To her luck the screw came out of the wall and she was saved.
 Abbie and Evee are both people who could have been killed when they first got captured but for some reason their lives are spared. On story was told while the other was to be a secret. One lost more friends through the situation then the other but their appearances both changed and so did personality.Their stories somewhat alike and different both connect on levels that neither can explain in words. it was either to accept change or not to. One chose so and ended on a different road then the other.
We'll see when Abbie ends up, back in the captures arms or on the street still telling her story to her friends and the cops who don't believe a word. Will She be caught again, or will she accept who the capture is and live a life with him as Evve did?

Land of the Living by Nicci French overview

   The book i am reading is called, Land of the Living by Nicci French. The story first begins with a girl around the age of twenty-five, named Abbie. She is captured by a man and has a bag put over her face. She sits on a cement floor while she is blacked out after the man had hit her hard over the head. Time passes but she just can't tell how much of it has, while being unconscious. As she awakens she can't see anything, hear anything, she can only feel pain. Her legs are numb she doesn't even know if they are there until she feels her toes touch the cold floor. When she awakens the capture notices as he sits diligently in the corner staring at her.She can't remember how she got where she is. Abbie, let out a scream and started cursing at him. As he heard the things she said he put a rag in her mouth that was dirty and had oil content deep within it. Abbie's breathing became hard. The rag dried her throat. The capture left for a while and then arrived, taking the rag out of her mouth he let her have a sip of water. After her sip she tried talking to him, she tried reverse psychology. He knew her game the other four women prior to her had tried different ways to escape him. They used sex, fighting, crying, and praying. None of these worked as the capture elaborated on their death frightening whatever fear Abbie still held.  The man kept coming back giving her food and water. Abbie, didn't understand why if he wanted to kill her he just didn't do it now. He took, Abbie, to a bucket which was used as her toilet. Her hands were tied so he had to do the work. After she had gone he placed her back where she had been sitting the whole time. When he came back again Abbie couldn't hold it in she fought. This was his last strike with her. He put a wire noose around her neck. He told her if she moved t would be her last one. She felt him leave, as he lie there she thought. She thought about the sky, a butterfly, and the green grass trying to remember what it was like out there. She couldn't bear it anymore, she moved forward and felt with her feet feeling for anyway out. As a hold came up, she just went for it, she had to. As she jumped the screw holding the noose came out of the wall and Abbie, feel to the floor feeling nothing. She thought she had died. As she ached she found it in her to try and escape. She untied her hands, feet, and neck. Releasing the bag from her head. She could see, it was dim she she saw a way out. She ran. Thinking he was always a step behind her. She kept going until she reached someone front door. She ran and said for them to help her and call the police. What she said was done, and now the police would look into her case and question her for a few days as she stayed in the hospital.

Relation of book and movie

   The movie "Sherlock Holmes" and the book we just finished in english class, The Curious Incident of the dog in the night time, are a lot a like. Christopher and Sherlock both enjoy math and science as well as revealing hidden clues. Not only are Christopher and Sherlock a like but in this instance but also the people close to them resenmble the same motive of leaving. As both stories are presented there are red hearrings involved, making the reader or watcher think one way but it turns out there is a whole new spin on things.
   Sherlock is an investigator who finds the facts behind Blackwood and the invention a former townsman invented, this invention would kill Palament.Making Blackwood powerful with putting the fear in others. As Sherlock investigates he comes upon math and science to solve the problems that come up putting his own life in danger. Chris on the other hand likes maths. He uses it as a comfort almost as Sherlock does science. Without these two things neither men would be sane. Christopher also uses math to help him in daily activities. They determine a lot about how the day will go, how to get to places, and most of all keeping things in order. With each character they solve the mysteries that are presented through their determination.
    Christophers mother left him at a young age, when Christopher met her again she seemed to want him like the past seemed to just dissapear. As Chris goes through the battle with his mom and dad he realizes that things were better the way they were and he can trust his dad. Being an esential part of the others life they can't let go of one another while it is easier for Chris to leave his mom. Sherlock has an instance like this except the outcome is opposite. The girl that he becomes attracted too if very miss leading and minipulates his mind so that he will fall for her and do as she likes. While in doing so, this placn is only in place to save Sherlocks life. When Sherlock finds she has been working under Blackwood his mind changes. He is still fond of her but he leaves her, he doesn't kill her because there is still a connection but she recieves a second chance. When someone comes in or out of their lives it makes a difference. There may be madness and even joy but either way they can do no wrong to the other in a hurtful manner. They are still connected.
   Sherlock Holmes is insperational to Christopher and as he fallows in his footsteps they incounted red hearrings, or missguiding clues. Christopher believing that love is the ability not to lie to someone finds otherwise. His father killed Wellington and even misslead him that his mother was dead. With great detective work, looking for the unknown he comes across letters written by his mother. This red hearring is very unexpected and throws a new look into the story. Chrstophers "film" memory helps him see things about his mother he would have forgotten. Knowing what he does and remembers he can reconnect with his mother. As in Sherlock Holmes instances occur smililar to this. Sherlock  comes upon many stories that are confusing. The way the dead can come back and black magic. Everyhting seemed so real. As Sherlock plays through his memories clues stay within. He can solve how Blockwood never died to begin with, how he killed the way he did, and how things will end. Both chracters have a lot in common, each over comming these missleading obsitcles, solving for the truth.

Reaction

 Christopher Boone the main character in the book the Curious incident of the dog in the night-time is writing a novel of his experiences through trying to find out who has killed Wellington. Wellington is said to be the main mystery but really it's about his mother who is believed to be dead. Christopher overcomes trials and challenges dealing with aspbergers.
 Mark Haddon the author of this book writes in a style as if he also has the disease or has dealt with people who may have had it. He lists of problems they may face and how some people react to this. He also puts an outside look on it using the neighbors reaction with Chris. An example he uses in his work is when something is said but it can have different meanings. When they say is confusing to him but in the same instance he is confusing to them. It's hard to comprehend at times as it is hard for Christopher to understand others. Christopher only likes certain things mostly in a certain order. He needs things explained to him fully. " Be quiet, but they don't tell you how long to be quiet for." In this instance Christopher likes to know these things because he goes by a schedule every day. When things go out of order he gets confused and angry. There is one instance in the book where Christopher begins to describe how the brain works. He uses windows and other every day like objects to explain this. Even though it is explained with things that i know it is still hard to comprehend because there is either too much information or it's just worded differently than i can understand.
 While investigating Wellingtons death he finds that his father has killed wellington and escapes to his mother's house because it is safer and he has no where else to go. In this travel Chris overcomes a lot of fears. He goes into crowds, talks to people, and becomes out of order. He gains self- knowledge overall.
